The House Moguls began in 2004 as a project that founder Gus Calderone (also known as gusegruv) envisioned as an outlet for young talented producers. The plan was to focus on quality releases taking their production one step at a time which, in turn, constantly raised the bar for themselves and the general House community. Their first release, done in conjunction with Josh the Funky 1, entitled the “Universal Sound” EP was released on System Recordings and quickly became a club favorite throughout the World.

The now known duo of Gus Calderone and Bill Basil (a.k.a. Billy the Kid) have tallied up productions from various different labels throughout their career including: Gung Ho Records, PBR Recordings, Play Digital, Pure Funk Records, S&S Records, System Recordings and of course their bread and butter, Funktion Recordings. Together they began producing House with a special twist. The two have been hard at work in the studio with releases on both US and European labels and working with lyrical phenomenon MC Flipside from Toronto in early 2007. The threesome’s remix of Kurd Mavericks’ “The Rub” went on to reach #4 on Canada’s Z103.5’s Most Requested Chart alongside Gwen Stefani (3) and Akon (5).

Playing solo dates for the past 12 years, the duo has decided to emerge from the studio with their first ever tour reaching Europe, the US and Canada. Simultaneously the duo plans to release some of the most innovative house to come out of Chicago in quite some time. Be on the lookout this fall for more original production and remixes for artists ranging from Kanye West and Common to George Clinton, CZR and a full EP with MC Flipside. Proving the House Moguls are the next evolution in House.

Bill Basil AKA "Billy The Kid"

In an age when the industry embraces a generation of superstar DJs, this young, talented artist shines through. Gaining credibility over the years, Bill Basil, commonly known as Billy the Kid, redrew the margins and strived to become one the most respected and sought after DJs from Chicago. Developing the skills to program his sets and showcase his talent on so many different levels is one of many reasons why numerous world class Djs and superstar musicians have chosen Bill to share the spotlight with. Working with a large musical spectrum has most recently landed him gigs opening sold out venues for The Prodigy and Jamiraqoi.

Residing in Chicago, WBBM Fm B96.3 Mixmaster Billy the Kid contributes to one of the most listened to Mix Shows from New York to L.A., which caters to millions of listeners. Aside from his multiple residencies at Chicago hotspots Sound Bar, Y Bar and Level, Bill has played at some of the biggest venues and events in the world; reaching crowds of 50,000+ in attendance. He was a featured Dj at the Winter Music Conference 2004 in Miami alongside Djs; Seb Fontaine, Donald Glaude, Dave Seaman and BT to name a few. Bill was also a nominee for Emerging Artist of the Year 2006 and Dj of the Year 2004 & 2005 for Chicago by Scion and Local Sound Chicago.

It’s no doubt that Bill is going to be a driving force in the scene for years to come, but more important, he has already earned international recognition for his work. Working solo under titles Bill Basil/Billy the Kid, or with fellow Funktion Recordings' artist Gus Calderone as "The House Moguls", his remixes and original material have found their way into the hands of some of the most influential and dominant producers in the electronic scene. Bill’s music has recently broke the top 10 on Europe's prestigious Radio 1 dance show and Buzz Chart as well as gotten play from Fergie, Stonebridge, Pete Tong, Robbie Rivera, Kid Massive, and Eric Prydz to name a few. With names like these supporting his sounds Bill has been able to consistently open for superjocks like Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten, Tall Paul, Armin van Buuren, The Scumfrog, and Axwell.

Into early 2007, Bill received much success with the release “Replay The Night” by 68 beats. This project received major airplay and support from multiple super jocks around the world. It also went to #3 on Billboards’ Breakout Club Tracks and is still in heavy rotation world-wide. His work with Mc Flipside and House Mogul partner Gus Calderone has also received much praise. Their remix of Kurd Mavericks’ “The Rub” went on to reach #4 on Canada’s Z103.5’s Most Requested Chart alongside Gwen Stefani (3) and Akon (5). The remainder of 2007 will be just as busy for Bill and The House Moguls. Gus Calderone AKA "gusegruv"

Gus Calderone, known also as Gus E Gruv, is not only one of today’s hottest producers he is one of the hardest working in the business today. Co Owner of Funktion Recordings and founder of The House Moguls, Gus has already dedicated 12 years to the House Music scene and isn’t looking to stop anytime soon. His career started like most, playing small house parties for friends under the alias Gus E Gruv. Though most take some time to develop their talent, Gus evolved quickly entering the Chicago club scene earlier than most DJs with residencies at then hot spots: Eclipse, Paladrome, Club Excite and Galaxy Club while simultaneously touring on a national level.

Entering the studio on his down time Gus began producing music under the alias gusegruv. He went on in 2003 to earn a degree at the World Renowned School; Full Sail in Florida and returned to Chicago to reconnect with longtime friend, Josh the Funky 1. An original supporter of Funktion Recordings, Gus signed on as Vice President and since has become Co-Owner of the label. His role at the label has been steadily increasing, handling the day to day bustle that every busy, prominent label has. Since signing on with Funktion, Gus’ dedication and aggressive moves have built the label a reputable catalogue with over 20 releases with major praise.
